چکیده

watermarking, digital security, halftone printing, printing security, error diffusion This report analyzes watermark embedding in Error Diffusion halftone images. A distortion measure for halftone modifications is introduced, and an embedding scheme is selected so as to minimize the proposed distortion. Next a statistical model is suggested for “natural-images”, leading to a lower bound on the halftone distortion as a function of watermark rate. Bound realization is argued to be equivalent to solving a prediction problem. Accurate prediction is not possible, however a good estimator is suggested for watermark embedding. The proposed embedding procedure is compared to alternative procedures, and shown to have better distortion versus rate performance. The visual impact in real images is also demonstrated.

Effects of Inverse Halftoning in Watermarking

In this paper we discuss the effects of applying inverse halftoning before detection of watermark in halftoned images. Inverse halftoning can be thought of as another distortion to the watermarked image. We will show an enhancement in watermark detector performance if inverse halftoning is used on smooth error diffused images and a deterioration in performance if inverse halftoning is used on h...

A Mixture Distortion Criterion for Halftones

Frequency weighted mean squared error (FWMSE) is often used for measuring image quality, in generating halftones, and in considerations of lossy compression of halftones. We construct examples to show the weakness of FWMSE when applied to halftones. Speci cally, we show that FWMSE does not directly re ect the uniformity in the spatial distribution of halftone dots. We then propose and examine a...

A mathematical description of the dot diffusion algorithm in image halftoning with application in inverse halftoning

The dot diffusion method for digital halftoning has the advantage of parallelism unlike the error diffusion method. The method was recently improved by optimization of the so-called class matrix so that the resulting halftones are comparable to the error diffused halftones. In this paper, we will give a mathematical description of the dot diffusion method. This description is then applied in in...

Show-through watermarking of duplex printed documents

A technique for watermarking duplex printed pages is presented. The technique produces visible watermark patterns like conventional watermarks embedded in paper fabric. Watermark information is embedded in halftones used to print images on either side. The watermark pattern is imperceptible when images printed on either side are viewed independently but becomes visible when the sheet of paper i...

Lossy Compression of Stochastic Halftones with JBIG2

The JBIG2 standard supports lossless and lossy coding models for text, halftone, and generic regions in bi-level images. For the JBIG2 lossy halftone compression mode, halftones are descreened before encoding. Previous JBIG2 descreening implementations produce high-quality images for clustered dot halftones at high compression rates but signi cantly degrade the image quality for stochastic half...
